Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries Expert - led the Agriculture and Fisheries component of the project to strengthen the capacity of the Government to carry out vulnerability studies needed to formulate climate change adaptation measures and to carry out demarcation of important biological reserves that contribute to carbon sequestration capacity and climate change resilience.
This report focuses on the impacts of current and future climatic change and variability to Trinidad and Tobago’s agriculture industry. The distinction between observed impacts of climate change and projected impacts is often unclear in the small islands literature and -discussions. Publications frequently deal with both aspects of impacts interchangeably, and use observed impacts from, for instance an extreme event, as an analogy to what may happen in the future as a result of climate change. Nonetheless, an assessment of the vulnerability of the agriculture sector is deemed critical for planning adaptation measures to ensure sustainability in the face of the adverse effects of climate change. The IPCC’s scenarios which are recommended by IPCC for use in conducting assessments of climate change impact and in developing adaptation and mitigation options are referenced throughout this report to speak to predictions under the various regimes.
